The short version

LiveCut is a local, on-device tool. It logs cuts from your video switcher and exports a timeline for your editing software — and that work happens entirely on your Mac. We do not track you, we do not use analytics or advertising, and we do not sell your data.

LiveCut is a local, on-device tool. It logs cuts from your video switcher and exports a timeline for your editing software — and that work happens entirely on your Mac. We do not track you, we do not use analytics or advertising, and we do not sell your data.

Only a few, specific things ever leave your computer, and only for clear reasons:

1. License checks — to verify your license with our payments provider.

2. Purchases — handled entirely by our payments provider (we never see your card details).

3. Crash reports — only if you turn them on (off by default).

4. Support bundles — only when you choose to send one.

Everything below explains each of these in plain terms.

1. What stays on your device (never sent anywhere)

The core of LiveCut is local-only. The following never leave your Mac unless you export or send them:

Your sessions and cut logs — the record of every cut, its timecode, camera, and markers.

Media assignments and file paths — which recorded clips you point each camera at.

Your media files — LiveCut reads them to build the export; it never uploads them.

Microphone / audio input — when you feed SMPTE LTC timecode into an audio input, LiveCut decodes it locally to timestamp cuts. That audio is processed on-device and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted.

Your license file and app settings — stored locally on your Mac.

Recovery snapshots — periodic local backups of an in-progress session so a crash doesn’t lose your work.

The exported files (e.g. FCPXML and marker sidecars) are written to a location you choose and are yours to move or share as you see fit.

2. Licensing — Lemon Squeezy

LiveCut is sold and licensed through Lemon Squeezy, our payments and licensing provider.

When you buy LiveCut, checkout happens on Lemon Squeezy’s own hosted page. Lemon Squeezy is the “merchant of record,” which means they collect and process your payment and billing information (such as your email and card details) under their privacy policy. GHST Labs never receives or stores your card number or full payment details.

When you activate or validate a license inside the app, LiveCut contacts Lemon Squeezy’s license service and sends:

Your license key.

A randomly generated device identifier for a standard (lifetime) license — an opaque tag (for example, “LiveCut (macOS) · a1b2c3d4”) that is created on your machine, contains no personal information, and is not your computer’s name. It exists only to bind your license to your device so the one-device limit can be enforced.

For a single-show license, the name of the show/session you are activating for, so the license can be tied to that one production.

A license instance ID returned by the service (to check and later release the seat).

LiveCut re-checks the license periodically while online to confirm it’s still valid, and can run offline for a grace period between checks. You can deactivate a license from the app to free the device (for example, to move it to another Mac).

3. Automatic crash reporting — Sentry (opt-in, off by default)

To find and fix bugs, LiveCut can send automatic crash reports through Sentry. This is strictly opt-in: the first time you run LiveCut it asks, in a clear dialog, whether to turn crash reporting on, and it stays off unless you say yes. You can change it anytime under Settings → Diagnostics → “Automatically send crash reports.”

If — and only if — you turn it on, a crash sends a technical report containing:

The error and its stack trace (which code failed and where).

App and system versions (LiveCut, Electron/Chrome/Node, and your macOS release).

Breadcrumbs — a short trail of recent in-app events (e.g. “session started,” “switcher connected,” “export”) leading up to the crash.

Before any crash report is sent, LiveCut removes identifying details: your computer’s hostname, your username, and your home-folder path are stripped out of the report. The report is about what broke in the software, not about who you are.

4. Support diagnostics — only when you send them

If you hit a problem and use “Email Support” in the app, LiveCut assembles a diagnostics bundle so we can help. Nothing is gathered or sent unless you initiate this. The bundle is a zip containing:

livecut.log — the app’s rolling activity log (app starts, switcher connects, exports, errors).

Recent crash reports (crash-*.json), if any.

system-info.txt — app and system versions, plus a short session summary: the session name you chose, the number of cuts, and the last timecode.

Depending on your connection, this bundle is either uploaded to our private support storage (a Cloudflare service operated by GHST Labs) or, if the upload can’t complete, revealed in Finder so you can attach it to an email to support@ghstlabs.com. Because the session name is text you typed, please avoid putting anything sensitive in session names if you plan to send a bundle.

5. What we do NOT do

No analytics or usage tracking. LiveCut contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs of any kind.

No selling or sharing of personal data with anyone for marketing.

No account required to use the app.

No collection of your location, contacts, browsing history, or the contents of your media.

No background telemetry. Aside from the opt-in crash reporting and the user-initiated support bundle described above, LiveCut does not phone home.

7. How long data is kept

Local data (sessions, logs, settings) stays on your Mac until you delete it or uninstall the app.

Crash reports and support bundles are kept only as long as needed to diagnose and fix issues, and are periodically aged out.

License records are retained by Lemon Squeezy for as long as your license is active, per their policy.

8. Your choices and controls

Turn crash reporting on or off anytime: Settings → Diagnostics.

Decide whether to send a support bundle — it only happens when you click.

Deactivate your license from the app to unbind the device.

Remove all local data by deleting the app’s data folder / uninstalling.

9. Security

Data sent for licensing, crash reporting, and support bundles is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Our support-bundle storage is private and not publicly accessible.

10. Children

LiveCut is a professional production tool intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

11. International users

GHST Ventures LLC is based in the United States, and the limited data described above is processed in the United States (and by our providers). If you use LiveCut from outside the U.S., you understand that this processing takes place in the U.S.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change how LiveCut handles data, we’ll update this policy and revise the effective date above. Material changes will be reflected in the app or on our website.
